Mental & Emotional Health
Sleep difficulties
Trouble falling asleep, waking in the night, vivid dreams or waking unrefreshed.
How it can feel
Sleep difficulties take many forms: difficulty falling asleep, waking at the same time every night, light or dream-disturbed sleep, or waking unrefreshed. They are closely linked with mood and stress.
How Chinese Medicine understands it
The time you wake, the quality of your dreams, how warm you feel at night and what is on your mind all help to build a picture of your individual pattern, which then guides the treatment.
What a consultation looks at
- Your main concerns and how long they have been present
- Sleep, energy, appetite and digestion
- Temperature, tension and physical symptoms
- Emotional wellbeing and what tends to make things better or worse
- Any medication or other care you are receiving

Alongside, not instead of. Chinese Medicine can be used alongside conventional medical or psychological care, not as a replacement for necessary treatment. If you are in crisis or feel unsafe, contact your GP or local emergency services straight away (999 or 111 in the UK, 112 in Europe).
