An ongoing artistic and research project exploring how the qualities of Chinese medicinal herbs might be translated into sound.
Sound Herbs began as a research and creative project exploring the possibility of translating the qualities of Chinese medicinal herbs into sound.
Drawing on traditional Chinese Medicine theory, herbs can be considered through characteristics such as organ affinity, temperature, flavour and therapeutic action. Sound Herbs explores what might happen if these relationships are translated into frequencies, textures and musical structures.
The project grew from my parallel lives as a Chinese Medicine practitioner and musician.
