Stress & emotional exhaustion
Running on empty, irritability, fatigue and the long tail of prolonged stress.
How it can feel
Long periods of stress can leave you exhausted yet unable to rest, irritable, foggy, prone to headaches or tension, and more sensitive than usual. Sometimes the exhaustion arrives only once the pressure stops.
How Chinese Medicine understands it
Chinese Medicine distinguishes between patterns of tension and constraint, and patterns of depletion, and often sees both together. A consultation looks at which is more prominent for you, so treatment can either help things move or help you rebuild.
What a consultation looks at
- Your main concerns and how long they have been present
- Sleep, energy, appetite and digestion
- Temperature, tension and physical symptoms
- Emotional wellbeing and what tends to make things better or worse
- Any medication or other care you are receiving

Alongside, not instead of. Chinese Medicine can be used alongside conventional medical or psychological care, not as a replacement for necessary treatment. If you are in crisis or feel unsafe, contact your GP or local emergency services straight away (999 or 111 in the UK, 112 in Europe).
